RDC Submission Suggestions

Recommendations for RDC Submissions

RDC submissions for our client platforms come primarily from mobile users' smartphone cameras. We recommend providing basic RDC submission guidelines to help ensure the smoothest experience for these mobile users.

  1. Make sure that the physical check's dimensions are standard and easy to discern, and that the check is submitted in horizontal/landscape format.
  • Technical note: We will only accept check dimensions with rectangular ratios between (roughly) 6:25 and 4:10 (i.e. between ~0.24 and ~0.40).
  • For example, if a user submits a check included on a sheet of A4 paper, the user should tear it off along its perforated edge and then take a photo of the check only. If the user attempts to submit the full A4 sheet, with dimensions of 8.27" x 11.69", then the ratio of the submission would be roughly 7:10, which would be outside of our accepted range.
  • Failure to submit a check with standard dimensions may cause issues processing your payment.
  1. Include all four corners of the check in the RDC upload, and make sure to include some of the background.
  • While not required, we also recommend placing the check on a dark background if possible.
  1. Make sure that that the submitted check image is free of any obstructions.
  • For example, the user should not submit an image of a check held in-hand, as the user's fingers will obstruct at least one of the check's edges.
  1. Do not submit torn or damaged checks.

  2. Make sure that lighting for the picture is appropriate. Natural light is preferred.

  • Taking dark/low-light photos is discouraged, and an instant flash should be avoided if possible.
    • Working under a fixed light source, while not ideal, is preferable to using a flash.
  • Do not cast a shadow over the check (and reorient if a shadow is cast over the check).
  1. Make sure to take the check photos from directly above the check (i.e. "straight on"), without skewing the photo.
  • Standardizing submissions as much as possible will help with success rates.
  1. Checks with machine-printed type are highly preferred for RDC submission.
  • However, if taking a hand-written check, make sure that the written type is legible.
  1. Deliver front and back check images in standard web image formats.
  • png
  • jpg / jpeg
  1. Only submit physically endorsed checks.
  • We will not accept checks that are missing physical endorsements--digital endorsements are not valid unless accompanied by physical endorsements.
  • The front of the check must be signed by the check issuer.
  • The back of the check must be endorsed by the payee.
  • Additionally, make sure to endorse the back of the check with “For Mobile Deposit Only."
    • We will not accept RDC submissions without such an endorsement note.
